Another step forward for establishing
the Agape' House was taken on Aug 21, 2004 as the board of directors
organized.
They met at the Northwood Nazarene Church to set in the by-laws and election of its officers and board members. The board includes Pastor Drew Isaac of Grace Fellowship of Vamoosa, Director: Pastor Daniel Fisher of Immanuel Fellowship of Seminole; and Director, Dan Holloway, senior partner of a law firm in Okla. City. Lajuana Know was elected to serve as treasurer, Mary Hess, |
the founder, was elected to serve as president, Norma Gillespie, was elected to serve as vice president. All decisions were unanimously adopted, as are the hopes of it's president, Mary L. Hess. Hess is known throughout the prison systems of Oklahoma as "Sister Mary" "I am delighted that God has orchestrated and brought such a group of God-fearing professional persons who love this city and the Seminole area and know that God plans for us that are good and not evil according to Jeremiah 29:11," said Hess. |
| The home will eventually house around
50 released Christian prisoners who are relocating to this area after their
incarceration. "Agape' House will provide a safe drug and alcohol, smoke
free environment as they are disciplined in money management and Christian
living society," said Hess.
The Agape' House will help the residents with employment, transportation , housing , clothing, food, Bible studies, and prayer counseling, as well as other programs that will be made available to it's residents. The idea of the Agape' House is for former prisoners to become assets to the community, living law abiding lives, seeing crime and lawlessness reduced in the Seminole area according to Hess. Christian and educational programs will be offered, such as Christian based Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous classes and possible GED training for those in need. "Most residents will be persons I have led to Christ throughout the years and has stayed connected to in minister visits, prison team ministry and correspondence." Hess said. Only those individuals who really want a second chance at life will be considered to become residents. "I have been doing this for some years now. Now it will be more than just one on one at a time." |
The next order of business is to locate a suitable building for this project. Agape' House is now accepting donations for the Agape' House, a work she said which will enrich Seminole. "Not everyone is called to go into prisons, county and city jails as I and my teams do, but we are all called to be a part of coming unto those in prison," Hess said. "This can be done by your donations, prayers, and physical support, volunteering in this work," she said. Area churches should wish to be involved in one way or another in prison ministry. |
"myself, I have a passion for seeing these formerly incarcerated people restored with their dignity and individuality putting their gifts and abilities to work for the Kingdom of God and our community," she said.
